Big WP London is a WordPress event for developers, publishers, product managers, and technical leads working on large scale high traffic websites. We welcome speakers from all over the world to share challenges and success stories on some of the most exciting and complex WordPress projects.

This month, on 13th September, WordPress.com VIP and Human Made will host the first Big WP London in 2018, in the beautiful News UK offices. With speakers from renowned agencies including Ipsyde, 10up, and Big Bite Creative, as well as a guest speaker from News UK’s technology team.

Big WP London Schedule

The event will take place between 17:30 – 21:00 on Thursday, 13th September. Doors open at 17:30 to allow plenty of time to get through security and we encourage you to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss the start of the presentations. 

Presentations typically last 20mins with an open Q&A at the end of every session.

Giuseppe Mazzapica, InpsydeWordPress Multisite for large and high traffic multilingual websitesStarting from a comparative overview of the various approaches to multilingual WordPress websites, the presentation will focus on the usage of Multisite for the scope, documenting Inpsyde’s experience with the multilingual-via-multisite approach and the benefit it brings for large, high-traffic websites in terms of performance, flexibility and “vendor lock-in” avoidance.
Gabe Karp, 10upRebuilding NobelPrize.orgBuilt in 1994, NobelPrize.org was one of the very first websites powered by a MySQL database. More than 20 years later, VIP agency partner 10up led a project to modernise the site, and bring a modern editorial workflow to the Nobel Digital team, whilst preserving the flexibility of that original build. 10up’s Gabe Karp will describe the creative and technical transformation behind the new site.

The Gutenberg journey hasn’t been without its issues, so Jason is going to explore the impact of the new editor, including how Big Bite are using Gutenberg, how the team tackled training, and how they price new projects which require blocks.
